For the first time the nationally acclaimed Battle Proms Concert comes to Althorp.
Join JSL Productions and The New English Concert Orchestra as they prepare to shake the grounds of the beautiful Althorp with the ultimate picnic proms!
At the Battle Proms the rousing musical programme is combined with 193 cannons, Spitfire air displays, courageous horsemen and superb soloists to create an unforgettable concert!
As well as the exciting traditional proms finale with spectacular fireworks, you will be treated to musical classics such as Dvorak’s Symphony No 9 “From the New World”, Strauss’s An Artist’s Life and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture with live cannon fire! The wonderful soprano soloist Denise Leigh will be joined by the acclaimed tenor Nicholas Ransley and they will perform uplifting arias and operatic duets including Verdi’s Brindisi from La Traviata. The Battle Proms has a tradition of supporting young musical talent and in 2008 they welcome the cellist Matthias Broersma who will perform a stirring rendition of Elgar’s Cello Concerto (1st Movement).
The evening will commence with a celebratory salute from a vintage field gun followed by a magnificent Spitfire Air Display carefully choreographed to Gustav Holst’s Jupiter!
The courageous cavalry of the Napoleonic Association will entertain you with horsemanship of the highest level during their skill at arms displays and elegant musical ride.
The centrepiece of the concert is the unique staging of Beethoven’s ‘Battle Symphony’ with 193 live cannons, musket-fire and fireworks! It is the wonderful ‘Battle Symphony’ that gives the Battle Proms its title. This is the only concert in the world to stage this incredible piece which has to be seen (and heard) to be believed!
While experiencing ground-shaking, breathtaking pyrotechnics and displays, the Battle Proms audience will be treated to a superb array of music guaranteed to make you wave your flags, sing out loud and even waltz under the stars!
The Battle Proms are proud to support the charity Combat Stress: the Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society. Combat Stress specialises in helping veterans of the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy with psychological injuries caused through service to their country.
