Althorp Estate

Enjoy a fun, family walk around the estate of Althorp House, a magnificent stately home and long-time residence of the Spencer family. Beginning in style, you will walk down a picturesque tree-lined avenue, before having the chance to savour the views of the historical house, its spectacular gardens, grazing lands and stunning oval lake.

How to get there
The Park is located seven miles west of Northampton off the A428.
From the South, Althorp is clearly signed as you approach Northampton from Junction 16 off the M1.
From the North, Althorp can be approached from Junction 18 off the M1. Follow the signs to Northampton.
The car park is signed on your approach to Althorp. 

Registration
Open from 12.00 midday – 1.30pm.
Please note the park will not open before 12.00 midday. 
Both walks start at 12.30pm. The latest start time is 2.00pm to ensure that you finish the walk prior to the Estate closing.

Walk duration
The three mile walk will take approximately one and a half hours and the 6.3 mile walk will take approximately three hours. 

Challenging aspects
The three mile walk is relatively flat and the 6.3 mile walk does have some uneven ground, so please concentrate on your footing. 

Suitability for pushchairs and/or wheelchairs
Unsuitable due to some uneven surfaces. 

Suitability for dogs
Dogs are not permitted on this walk.

Car parking
There is a free car park at the start/finish. 

Public transport
There are no public transport facilities.

Toilets
There are toilet facilities at the start/finish.

Refreshments & picnicking
Bottles of water will be provided at the start and finish of each walk. 
There is a picnic area with log seating at the finish point, however it is advisable to bring your own picnic rug.
You will also be able to shop in the local produce market in the Pump Yard. 

Children's activities
There will be a countryside quiz for children to take part in on the walk with prizes given for different ages groups.

Don't forget to bring
Appropriate footwear or wellies if wet. Dress according to the weather conditions as the route is exposed
