Princess of Wales

The Princess of Wales Bedroom was named in honour of a visit to Althorp from the future King Edward VII and his wife, Princess Alexandra.

This room used to be the bedroom of Frederick, Fourth Earl Spencer.

Apart from the paintings, the decoration and furniture in this room have remained very little changed since 1911. The furniture is pre-dominantly Georgian, including a set of six George III side chairs, a pair of mid-Georgian bedside cupboards and a Georgian mahogany kneehole dressing table.

The mirror was formerly in the Ante Room of Spencer House, London - the doors also came from Spencer House. The bed was made in 1923 using an oak canopy made for the Prince of Wales in 1863.
