THE LITERARY FESTIVAL

The 9th Althorp Literary Festival
Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th June 2012
Althorp has established itself as one of Britain’s best loved literary festivals – great location, excellent organisation, very fine writers and speakers, plus, of course, truly well-informed audiences. Don’t miss it! Gavin Esler
The line-up for the 9th Althorp Literary Festival is as eclectic and entertaining as ever: please mark 15-17 June, 2012 in your diary, if you feel tempted to come to hear any or all of a cast that includes Alistair Darling, Brian Sewell, Claire Tomalin, or Jeremy Vine. We have welcome returns, from Anthony Beevor, Louis de Bernieres, Helen Rappaport and Kate Williams. Charles Dickens's bicentenary receives a three-part salute. There is music and drama, comedy and war. This is a festival that looks after its authors with care: in return, they enjoy the intimacy and the relaxed atmosphere of Althorp - many, flatteringly, have said publicly that it's their favourite literary event. It is a time for thought and laughter, in the inspiring setting of one of England's best loved historic homes. We all look forward to welcoming you to Althorp for a magical, summer, long weekend.

“I’ve been to literary festivals all over the world but none of them had the intimacy and the enthusiasm of Althorp.”
Anthony Horowitz
“Lord! when you sell a man a book you don't sell just twelve ounces of paper and ink and glue - you sell him a whole new life. Love and friendship and humour and ships at sea by night - there's all heaven and earth in a book, a real book.”
Christopher Morley
