The Althorp Literary Festival: New Authors Announced

The Althorp Literary Festival is shaping up to be a weekend not to be missed.  Althorp is delighted to announce more fantastic authors to the weekend's exciting programme.  Joining Jenni Murray, Bill Bryson, Alan Davies, Chris Hunter, Patrick Hennessey and Helen Rappaport, we look forward to welcoming:

John Julius Norwich: John Julius Norwich will be joining us at Althorp to discuss his new release, The Great Cities in History.  This fascinating book includes a galaxy of distinguished contributors, as they evoke the character of each place its people, its art and architecture, its government and explain the reasons for its success. Richly illustrated with photographs, paintings, maps and plans, this volume is nothing less that a portrait of world civilization. In this informative and enlightening session at the Festival, John Julius Norwich will tell the stories of great cities, and how they have marked the development of human civilisation over time.

Sam Kiley:  Award winning news journalist Sam Kiley will be joining the stellar line up, discussing his time embedded with the British forces in Afghanistan.  Sam Kiley has covered wars and insurgencies in more than thirty countries over the last twenty years, working extensively in Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban.  In this insightful, thought provoking session, Sam Kiley will be in conversation with Saul David, himself the leading historian on Britains past military involvement in Afghanistan.

The Greatest Battle Debate:  Decide who reigns supreme as The Greatest Battle of all time!  Join Saul David, Patrick Bishop and Justin Pollard in this vigorous and entertaining debate, as they discuss who should walk away with the title of The Greatest Battle.  In this lively, historical session, Saul David will be defending The Battle of Rorke's Drift, Patrick Bishop will be supporting The Battle of Britain, and Justin Pollard will be arguing for The Battle of Edington.
